Everything buyers need to know about auctions, delivery, payments, returns and using This Old Thang.
How Auctions Work
Everything you need to know before placing your first bid.
How long do auctions run?+
Auctions can run from 5 minutes up to 24 hours. Each listing shows a live countdown so you can see exactly when bidding closes.
Does a late bid extend the auction?+
No. The ending time is fixed. Bids placed near the end never add extra time. The highest valid bid received before zero wins.
How do I place a bid?+
Choose the next available bid amount on the item card. Your bid is recorded immediately and the current price updates for everyone.
What happens if I am outbid?+
If notifications are enabled, we can send an in-app and push alert so you can return to the item and bid again while it is still live.
What happens when I win?+
You will see a congratulations message and the item moves into your Won and My Purchases areas.
What happens if an item does not sell?+
Unsold items can be automatically relisted with a fresh auction timer.
Postage & Delivery
How combined Evri delivery works across multiple auction wins.
How much is postage?+
Your first win establishes the initial Evri postage charge. The current base charge is £4.79 for a combined parcel up to 2kg.
Do I pay postage for every item?+
No. Further wins are consolidated into the same shipment. You only pay more postage if the estimated combined packed weight moves into a higher band.
What are the current combined postage bands?+
Up to 2kg is £4.79, 2–5kg is £6.59, 5–10kg is £6.68 and 10–15kg is £10.28.
Can you give me an example?+
If your first win is a £12 dress, the order includes £4.79 postage. If you then win a £9 T-shirt and the parcel remains under 2kg, only the £9 item price is added.
Where do you currently deliver?+
For now we deliver to supported UK addresses only. Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are not currently supported.
Payments & Winning
What happens financially when an auction finishes.
When do I pay?+
The live system is designed so payment is taken immediately after each successful auction win.
How does combined postage affect later wins?+
Later wins only add any increase needed to move your combined parcel into the next postage band. You are not charged the base postage again.
What if a payment fails?+
The order can be marked Payment Required and bidding may be temporarily restricted until the payment issue is resolved.
Why might testing look different?+
On staging or during testing, payment collection may be disabled so bidding and fulfilment can be tested safely.
Returns & Refunds
What to do when an order or item is not right.
What should I check before bidding?+
Please review the listing title, size, condition, photos and short video. Pre-loved clothing may show normal signs of previous use where described.
How do I identify an item?+
Each garment has a simple stock number. Keep that number when contacting us because it lets us find the exact auction and order quickly.
How are approved refunds handled?+
Approved refunds are returned using the original payment method once the return has been reviewed.
Do I keep my statutory rights?+
Yes. Nothing in these auction rules removes statutory consumer rights that apply under UK law.
Terms & Auction Rules
The key rules for taking part in This Old Thang auctions.
Are bids binding?+
Only bid when you intend to buy. A winning bid creates an order for that item at the final winning price.
Are auction times fixed?+
Yes. Auction timers do not extend when a late bid is placed. The highest valid bid received before the timer ends wins.
What account details do I need?+
Buyers must keep their recipient's name and UK delivery address accurate before bidding.
What condition are the goods in?+
Items are pre-loved unless the listing says otherwise. Review the condition, size, photos, video and description before bidding.
Can an account be restricted?+
Accounts may be restricted for misuse, repeated failure to complete orders, abusive behaviour or attempts to interfere with auctions.
Do these rules replace consumer law?+
No. These rules do not remove statutory consumer rights that apply under UK law.
